PAT O. REID ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Pat was a firm believer that “ Every athlete deserves a certified coach ”, as a result Curl Ontario annually bestows 2 awards (one for the south and one for the north) on two deserving individuals.
The awards allow coaches to continue to upgrade their coaching certification and to assist the recipient ’s curling club to certify additional coaches.
Nominees will be individuals who have shown a great deal of commitment and passion to the development of athletes both on and off the ice. The nominees can be coaches who have been involved for a long time or short time, with youth curlers and/or adults. They can be individuals with no certification, but with a desire to obtain certification, or those with high levels of certification. These awards are available to all types of coaches, not just those who have coached “elite” teams.
The Award:
- Each winner will receive a personal memento indicating they have won;
- Curl Ontario will credit each winner up to $300 to cover tuition and other costs associated with taking an upgrading course related to curling (e.g. theory, next technical level). If the selected course is a Curl Ontario course, Curl Ontario will offer the course at no cost and the credit may be used for other costs related to the course;
- A credit of $500 will be allocated to recipients curling club to be used to send individuals to Curl Ontario technical courses. This amount may be applied to new coaches taking level 1 Technical or coaches taking their next level. The credit will be held for a maximum of three years, at which time any remaining amount will be returned to the memorial fund.

On a personal note, my mother loved the sport of curling, and shared this passion with many curlers. I have spoken with many coaches, athletes and parents that have indicated that they have been touched by her. I love hearing those stories and believe the best was to honour her memory is to give back to the sport.
There are many coaches who give a lot to the sport and deserve to be recognized. Please consider the award, and nominate that special person who has given generously to your club, team and/or sport.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the process I can be reached by e-mail at trev_reid@hotmail.com or by telephone at (705) 437-3671.
